“WHO DO YOU SERVE”

img_3126

We are all being presented with this energetic vibrational change and we all (whether we’re aware or not) being asked to clean/clear/cleanse those energies that no longer serve us. Let go of these patterns that continue to hold us hostage, that keep us in pain, that keep us in turmoil.
I did a card draw this morning which isn’t unusual, I used a deck that my friend Kathy sent me. It is the Animal Spirit Guide Oracle Cards by Steven Farmer. The card I drew was Dog, now right off the bat you would think oh it is going to be a warm fuzzy, well imagine my surprise when I am hit with Who Do You Serve and about serving multiple masters and you are not at the head of the list. It talks about how we tend to allow these masters to put the collar on and lead us around. I had to own that I still allow people in my life to control what I am doing or saying. The key word was Placate, yup I still react in ways that I don’t want to rock the boat. Every time we do this Placating others we give up a piece of our power. So now is the time to take off all the Dog Collars that others have put around our necks and walk away freely into the powerful beings we are.
I feel this message goes with what Ray is saying in his message of finding our power within ourselves but also taking it from those we have given power too.

After Hibernation
As much as I enjoyed my Hibernation over the winter, my spirit is now
stirring and I wish to begin my new journey. I thought that I would start with
a soft nudge and ask the Medicine Wheel cards for guidance. Again and
again the Heyokah card appeared. The application of the Heyokah card reads
in part; you are a barrel of laughs. You may be doing exactly the opposite of
what you need to be doing. don’t let getting pooped on get you down.
Yes, Yes, I’m aware of the power of laughter and doing the opposite. But it’s
not exactly what I was looking for. I was hoping for the Power Place, or
the Victory card. But I kept on returning to Heyokah.
OK then, Heyokah it is.
I have read in some Lakota rituals, the Heyokah performer may stick his
hand in boiling water or eat the flesh of a dog. A Hopi, Katchina Clown may
dance naked in the public plaza. These acts were meant to show the power of
the opposite. The shock and surprise cause others to laugh at the foolishness.
Gee…. I’m not questioning the level of my faith or the dedication of my
beliefs…..but I just don’t see myself doing anything like that. I have other
sources to rely on for advice.
When ever I’m unsure, I find comfort in the stories told to me by the
Ancient Ones. There is a place I return to often. There are ruins that exist
in today’s world near the Utah / Colorado boarder. I’ve done quite a bit of
back country exploring here and I’m always treated to a story or lesson from
the past or from the Earth. My connection to this place also carries me to the
time when the Ancient Ones lived here. ( Actually, they living there now).
Near the great Kiva sits a man waiting for me. He is a Holy man, his name
is Crazy Eyes. For some reason he likes me. He seems to enjoy my visits and
is always willing to share his wisdom.
He greets me like family and asks what it is I wish to learn today.
I explained to him of my uncertainty. I want to walk the good road, but in
which direction? I know I will be faced with obstacles and opportunities
any way I go, but which way will serve and please Spirit? Or do I do the
opposite?
Crazy Eyes laughed. “Come with me.” he said.
He guided me to a hillside just out of view of the village. It is there a circular
stone dwelling appears. Part of the structure consisted of four under
ground rooms. Above ground, smooth plastered ,windowless walls and a flat
roof can be seen. In the center of the roof is a hole leading into the
underground chambers. A circle of stones lay on the roof near the opening.
Crazy Eyes told me “This was built by the people before my people.
We don’t know it’s original purpose, but it is a place of great power.
Each night, with ceremony, we place a small bowl of water and a basket of
food on the roof, within the stone circle. This seems to please the Spirits.
Each morning the meal is gone and each day we are blessed with a good
life.”
We walked around the structure and sat in the shade of the walls.
He shared this story with me
It is told, along time a go, a young man was seeking his power. The
young man thought if he could capture what ever was eating the food each
night ,the magic from that Spirit would become his power. So he spent the
night sitting against the walls of this place waiting for the Spirit’s arrival.
But in the morning, the meal was gone. The young man later confessed he
had, just for a moment, fallen asleep.
The young man’s friend saw this as a challenge and believed he could
capture the Spirit’s power. It was told that a great fog covered the hillside
that night and the meal was gone in the morning.
Two of the village’s best warriors decided it would best if they were the
one’s who would capture the Spirit’s power. They too went to the dwelling at
night. While standing guard along the walls, they heard a clatter behind
them.
They went to investigate and saw nothing. When the returned to their post.
The meal was gone.
Some boys decided they would set fires around the structure.
All night the danced and maintained the fires, but in the morning, the meal
was gone.
The people of the village found all of this amusing. As a group, they too
wanted to capture the mysterious Spirit. It was suggested that the one eating
the food must be coming from the sky. So the people weaved a large net and
posted it, as a snare, above the bowl and basket. In the morning the meal was
gone and the net was empty.
Another cleaver idea was for the people to sit all night shoulder to shoulder
around the dwelling. Thinking nothing would get by them. But, once again
the meal was gone.
The elders of the village became frustrated with the people’s follies.
This mysterious being had great power and obviously did not want to be
discovered. The nightly ceremony of leaving the food would continue.
Goodness still blessed the land. But any attempts of the Spirit’s capture was
forbidden.
Crazy Eyes told me when he was a boy, he was different. He could see
rainbows in the sky that others did not see. He would see the shadows on the
forest’s floor stand up and dance. He would watch the moon rise in the west
and set in the east. He could see water flowing up stream. When he told
others about these visions he earned his name “Crazy Eyes”.
When he was older, he too was looking for his power. Although it was
forbidden, he decided to spend the night at the sacred shrine. Instead of
waiting around the outer walls, Crazy Eyes sat on the roof in front of he
bowl and the basket. It was a cold ,clear, full moon night and he waited.
Peering out of the hole in the roof two eyes glowed in the moon light. The
tip of a nose sniffed the air.Two ears twisted in his direction. As quiet as he
tried to be, Crazy Eyes beating chest alerted the being of his presence. Out
from the hole in the roof leaped a Coyote!
Crazy Eyes sat frozen as the Coyote circled around him. Showing a fang
from his curled lip as he passed. The Coyote’s circle came closer. He stopped
and sat in front of the boy. The bowl and the basket in between the two.
“Well,” said the Coyote, “What have we here?”
“ Do you wish to steal my power too?”
Crazy Eyes managed to say, “ I don’t want your power, I’m looking for my
own.”
“Ah. What do you know of this place?”
“ I know it is very old. I know it is sacred.”
The coyote shared this story, “ Many think the underground rooms are the
directions of the four winds. Others believe the are for the four seasons.
But they truly mean the four chambers of the heart.”
“When the people tried to capture me, they were waiting outside, for my
arrival. But I’ve been living inside the shrine all along. That is why the
people were fooled. That is my trick. After I would eat my meal I would roll
on the ground with laughter.”
Crazy Eyes tells this better than I can write it. His voice and hand jesters
animate the story. It all made me laugh, even at myself. I was fooled too.
Originally, I had asked for guidance, which direction should I place my
attention. For me, this story is a guide.
Heyokah spirit is very powerful. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that one
needs to do the extreme to be opposite. Even small changes in your life can
be Heyokah. A year ago, I probably wouldn’t have shared my thoughts and
stories in a newsletter like this, but here I am, and it makes me laugh.
A lesson from Crazy Eyes’ story tells us, we can wait and wait for spiritual
power to arrive. But the opposite is true. The power is already living inside
us, in our own shrine, our hearts.
I’m still a little groggy form my hibernation, but the lessons I’ve learned
will remain with me. I feel more prepared and inspired to look for and create
beauty as I walk this good road ahead of me.
One more thing from Crazy Eyes. He now is the one who leaves the meal
for Coyote. It is important to feed the hidden, mysterious Spirit who lives in
the shrine. And each day you will be blessed with a good life.
